Evercade 19: Codemasters Collection 1 - Brief Tour

Hello there my friends. Today we are taking a brief tour and showing my initial thoughts on the 19th Evercade cartridge - Codemasters Collection 1. Codemasters was a big part of my childhood, on both the Spectrum and the Amiga, so I have been really excited for this set.

There are 17 games in this collection, 10 are 8Bit, and 7 are 16Bit. Please note however, and this has been the case so far with Evercade, these are the console editions of the games and not the Amiga. But this really isn't an issue, as the games are great regardless of which version we have.

This post is a little later than intended, as getting hold of a cart was a bit of an adventure in itself. A company we will not name here first changed the date to a week later than everywhere else, then suddenly didn't have them anymore. Thankfully, the wonderful Funstock managed to get me a cart the very next day.

Unfortunately, the saga continued when two of the games didn't work on the cart. But we all knew there was a chance this might happen on a select few. Again, Funstock were quick to replace with a perfect copy, so big thank you to them. I cannot recommend that company enough.

With all that out the way, and a fully working cart slotted into my Evercade, its finally time to take a look at Codemasters collection 1:

Initial Thoughts
Of course the big three are the initial draw of this collection - Cannon Fodder; Sensible Soccer; and Mega-lo-Mania. They seem as good as I remember from the quick play I had (If two hours on each could be classed as quick!) But the rest of the set still has much to offer.

There is a huge variety here: racing, shooters, tennis, pinball, and platformers. Early highlights are racing a cow and caravan in Super Skidmarks, and flying a bee whilst trying to collect honey in the horizontal shooter Bee 52.

Of the six platform games, boomerang kid is an early favourite, and Cosmic Spacehead has an interesting addition with its great point and click adventure slant.

All in all this cart is shaping up to be one of the best so far, and I can't wait get stuck in and post my final thoughts on each title.

Until next time my friends, be seeing you x
