Evercade 10 - Technos Collection I

Another week, another Evercade Collection. This week can you believe it we have finally reached Evercade 10: Technos Collection I. There are only 8 titles in this set but to be honest that is refreshing after the last huge gorgeous beast I had to get through. This set leans very heavily into one style of game, the scrolling fighter, so if you are not a fan of that type of game this cartridge may not be for you. Thankfully I blooming love them.

Here is the countdown to my favourite games on the Technos Collection I. As usual you can watch the video here, or just beneath are my thoughts on each of the titles:

8: Super Dodge Ball
I'm British, dodgeball isn't really a think here. This game feels very basic and is enjoyable enough in short bursts, but I didn't return to it very often because what else is included on the cartridge is so much more fun.

7: Crash 'N' The Boys: Street Challenge
I will admit I really didn't like this game to begin with. Once I finally started getting used to the controls of the events I started getting some fun out of it, but to be honest it was always going to be difficult for any other game to hold my attention for long when there are three double dragon games on the same cartridge.

6: Super Spike V Ball
I had limited fun with this game, once I got a bit better with the controls I begin to really enjoy it and played it a lot more over the other two "Sports" titles

5: Renegade
I was a huge fan of the spectrum version of this game growing up, I was so impressed with the graphics when the enemies grabbed you from behind and you could kick the one in front or shrug off the one that held you. I don't remember it being this hard though! Still an absolute blast when I got a hang of the controls and how the game was set out.

4: Double Dragon
Great fun, being the first of the series its obviously a bit more basic then its many sequels but there is still a great game here and the music is fantastic.

3: Double Dragon II
Only just missing out the 2nd place spot. I loved that one button attacked left and one right, no matter which way you were facing. I felt I had much more control over what was going on on screen and in the end found it an easier experience than the first Double Dragon.

2: Super Double Dragon
There wasn't much in it between Super and Double Dragon II. Super just beats it with gorgeous designed levels, animation, and 4 attack buttons for more control. I had so much fun with the whole series, but this felt like it had more depth to it so pulled me in for longer periods than the others.

1: River City Ransom
I loved this game, all the fun of a scrolling fighter but with an added RPG twist. You can upgrade so many parameters  by buying and eating food, and reading books amongst over things. You gain money by beating the crap out of everything. It becomes a grand loop of grinding for cash to buy those sweet items that will increase your power, or defence before moving on to a tougher section in the game to do it all over again. Loved it!

Thoughts on the Technos Collection I
Such a fun set of games to play through. There may not be a huge variety of game types within, but when it's a solid series like Double Dragon, who cares! I was so surprised with River City Ransom. I had never heard of the game before and didn't know what to expect, least of all how addictive it was and how it left the other games in the dust when it came to giving me that 'just one more go' urge.

Now we've hit the first milestone, tomorrow I will return with my rankings of the first 10 cartridges. Until next time my friends, be seeing you xx
