Saturday Shenanigans: The Evercade handheld Console - First Look

Evercade Handheld Console
I've been looking at the Evercade for awhile now, undecided if I wanted one or not. I almost bought it twice, before talking myself out of it. Finally I had a bit of spare change and in a what the hell moment, I snagged a premium pack and one extra game cartridge. (but more on that in a minute).

The Machine
I love the simple white and red design. Size wise its about the same as a PSP. The buttons are great and clicky and it all feels really solid. There are two speakers that do a decent job, with the volume control underneath the device, but if you want to keep it to yourself there's a headphone jack too.

There's an option to play the games on a HD telly running at 720p, and it looks and plays fine . You can save in game when ever you want, which is always a welcome feature for older games. There is also the option to switch from the games original screen ratio to widescreen. I always prefer the original, but it's nice the option is there.

Cartridges and Cases
One of the best things about this device are the gorgeous little cartridges the games are on. They come in lovely little cases complete with colour manuals - I know! Each Cartridge is themed: Atari; Namco; Interplay; Oliver Twins etc, and can have anywhere between 2 and 20 games. But heaven help the collector in me, each cartridge is numbered! And what cartridges did they include with the Premium set: 1, 2 and 4! Yep, I immediately bought cartridge 3 to prevent my left eye from uncontrollable twitching.

Cartridge 1: The Atari Collection 1 with 20 games incl: Asteroids; missile command; Adventure
Cartridge 2: Namco Museum Collection 1 with 11 games incl: Pac-Man; Dig-Dug; Galaxians
Cartridge 4: Interplay Collection 1 with 6 games incl: Earth Worm Jim and Clayfighters

Cartridge 3 (bought separately): Data East Collection 1 with 10 games

My verdict so far...
I love this machine, I had an initial quick play with one or two games from every cartridge just to check they were all working and how different types of games handle on the machine, and I'm impressed. Both on the consoles screen and up big on a HD television, they play and look fine.

From tomorrow and almost every Sunday after I will be going through each Cartridge in numbered order, counting down to my favourite game of the set, and sharing my thoughts on each one along the way. Tomorrow I'll be taking a look at Cartridge 1:Atari Collection 1.

Until next time my friends, be seeing you x
